Context Matters

Lee Hammock, also known as MentalHealness on social media, uses his platform to educate and advocate for those who have narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and victims of those who have NPD. On more than one occasion, he has posed this food for thought, “Ask yourself this question. Did you go through things together, or did they put you through it? Context matters.

Often, the things couples go through together are those things that cannot be avoided. They are life situationsβ€”-health issues, job loss, parenting, and other life adversities that you and your partner decide you will conquer together.⁣
⁣
Being put through something is usually caused by an intentional act of one of the involved partiesβ€”-cheating, any form of abuse, triangulation, or other situations that are not considered life adversities but toxicity and drama.
⁣
It is an excellent question, and it is something all should consider giving thought to. Do not allow yourself to be guilted into staying in situations you should leave because of history, especially if that history is toxic. You only get one life to live. You have to decide what is worth it. Peace of mind living a fulfilling life, and especially building and creating life with another being, is priceless.
