Finding Calm in the Chaos: Navigating the Storm of Today’s Political Climate

A LOT has transpired over the last month! Let’s stop and together take a breath: inhale….and exhale. In this month’s blog, we’re diving into a topic at the forefront of many of our minds: the current political climate. It’s no secret that these are turbulent times, and it can feel overwhelming to witness the chaos. But remember, after every storm, calmness follows. It’s crucial to maintain our mental health as we weather this storm together.

The world is a lot to take in right now. First, let’s acknowledge that the current political landscape can be especially challenging, no matter your background or walk of life. We are in a time that is filled with much uncertainty. We’re at the intersection of multiple issues, from racial inequality to economic injustice. These challenges can feel personal and can weigh heavily on our mental well-being. It’s okay to feel frustrated, angry, or anxious. These emotions are valid and understandable given the circumstances.

That said, I want to encourage anyone coming across this post to stay grounded. This time is definitely a good time to lean on and connect with your community. The power of community cannot be overstated. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, whether it’s family, friends, or online communities. These connections provide support and remind you that you’re not alone in this journey.

Now, this is the most important thing: stay informed but set boundaries. Social media, traditional news, and so forth can be very overwhelming. While it’s important to stay informed about political issues, constant exposure to news can be draining. Set boundaries. Designate specific times to catch up on the news and ensuring you have time away from screens to recharge.

If you have tried the above two suggestions to no avail, but it is not enough, seek out professional help. There’s no shame in seeking professional help. Therapy can provide a safe space to process emotions and develop coping strategies. Many therapists now offer virtual sessions, making them more accessible than ever.

I am encouraging each and every reader to remain hopeful. History shows us that change is possible, and progress often follows periods of great challenge. Keep this in mind: the storm won’t last forever. As we navigate these uncertain times, we hold onto the belief that better days are ahead. Together, we can work towards a future where peace, justice, and equality are the norms rather than the exceptions.

Stay strong, stay united, and keep shining, my friends. The calm is coming, and when it does, we’ll be ready to embrace it fully.
