Let Go or Be Dragged

We are all guilty of holding on to things that we should let go of. People stay in friendships, relationships, with an employer, or deal with circumstances that we know we should have walked away from years ago. All the signs are there that the relationship, the business endeavor, or the friendship has run its course. Yet, we continue to cling on. Why?

The truth is, we hold on because of familiarity. We have a fear of the unknown and want to stay in control. We have a mindset that history with a person or situation means more than our self-care and self-worth. We refuse to let go because of the time invested. We hold on to save ourselves from embarrassment.

However, at some point, we have to acknowledge and accept what we refuse to let go of will eventually drag us. Holding on to what we should release disallows us from being our full selves at our highest potential. It keeps us stagnant. It prevents us from receiving what we are to receive. When we’re trying to carry a load that has served its purpose, it becomes dead weight. When we reject leaving behind what no longer serves us, it does nothing but causes more frustration, chaos, and pain.

It is up to you to realize that no one or nothing can have a hold over you without your permission. You do not have to surrender your control. You can decide to let go or be dragged.
