The Brazilian Wax

It’s been years since I’ve had my last Brazilian wax so when I went this past Saturday and it was like going in for the first time. My very first experience was not a good one; however, the experience I had Saturday was extremely pleasant and I wanted to share since women are given so many horror stories.

I had my waxing done at The Pretty Kitty. My esthetician was a lady name Keonna. She was extremely friendly and made me feel very welcomed and comfortable. I will definitely book with her again.  At The Pretty Kitty, they use a soft wax and other products specific to their brand that made this experience extremely smooth. In addition to the Brazilian wax, I got an eyebrow and full leg wax.

Some things I found useful and I would recommend doing before your wax appointment are:

  1. Exfoliate the night before and the morning before. This helps to remove dead skin cells which will reduce the amount of pain during your wax.
  2. Be kind and considerate to your esthetician. She will be in your personal space; showering the morning of your appointment and going while you’re not on your period is a must and appropriate etiquette. Taking a warm shower also helps to open your pores.
  3. If you’re a coffee or caffeine drinker, stay away until after your appointment. I’m a coffee drinker but skipped the cup of Joe the morning of my appointment. It’s been said that caffeine and alcohol can tighten your pores.
  4. Make sure to have at least four weeks of hair growth, especially if this is your first wax. It makes the process much easier.
  5. Do not exercise before your appointment. Exercising causes your muscles to tighten or tense up which can increase the pain felt during your wax. I’ve read elsewhere that it is recommended to take a pain reliever two hours before your appointment, I did not do this; neither did I use a numbing cream. For me, it was more uncomfortable than painful; however, I do know that pain varies from woman to woman and is dependent upon her tolerance level.

Once I completed my appointment, I was given a list that instructed what should be done in the After Care of my Brazilian wax. That included exfoliation, and avoiding exercise and sex for at least two days. Keonna told me that after two days, my pores would still be open and the sweating from sex and exercise can increase the chances of clogged pores or ingrown hair. She also recommended using a topical serum containing glycolic to prevent and remove ingrown hair. Keonna also recommended for the few days to use sensitive baby wipes when going to the restroom and when showering to use my hand and rub in a circular motion. I didn’t use wipes, I was comfortable with sticking to toilet tissue. I did use my hand when showering. Initially, I used my towel and I didn’t like the feeling. Using my hand and rubbing in a circular motion did make a difference.

The Brazilian wax! Lol. It leaves your skin feeling so soft and smooth especially if the wax is done properly. It is definitely worth it. I would recommend doing thorough research before choosing a waxing company so that you can find the one that is most suitable for you and your needs.
